Paper Sizes and what you need to know.
Paper and Board sizes are standardised using an international standard ISO 216. This standard sets out sizes for all commonly used papers. The ones you will be most familiar with are the A sizing’s, A4, A3 etc, which are used for most printed literature, including letterheads, flyers etc. These sizes have the advantage of being directly scalable should you want to enlarge artwork, from an A5 flyer to an A4 leaflet for instance.
The sizes below are shown in mm – we have also included the size including bleed should you wish to provide your own artwork and upload it to our templates.
Bleed allows for a slight overhang on each edge of the finished paper size, this means that if you wish colour to run right to the edge of the sheet it “Bleeds” over by 3mm on each side, when trimmed down this means that you don’t have white borders.
In order to give you a better idea of what your finished products will look like we have covered up the bleed areas on all of our template designs. Your final printed product will not include the white borders that you can see on the visuals, colours will run right up to the edge of the finished print.
| Sheet | Size (mm) | Size with Bleed (mm) |
A0 |
841 x 1189 |
847 x 1195 |
The other size commonly used is that of a compliment slip.
This is normally one third height of an A4 sheet so 210 x 99 and 216 x 105 with bleed.
